Plan Purpose

Charlotte's most recent Center City vision plan, the 2020 Plan, highlighted the North Tryon area of uptown as an opportunity for new development that could improve the quality of life for all Charlotteans.  Following up on the 2020 Plan's recommendations, a consortium of civic, business and government institutions has engaged a multi-disciplinary consultant team to create and facilitate an innovative vision and implementation plan for the North Tryon area of uptown Charlotte.  Charlotte Center City Partners, the City of Charlotte and the Foundation for the Carolinas are leading the planning effort in partnership with at least 18 other public and private entities, which are listed below.  In addition to being strong civic, government & business leaders, most of these partners control land and/or real estate holdings in the North Tryon area.

The “North Tryon Vision & Implementation Plan” will establish a vision to catalyze and sustain growth and development in this area of Charlotte’s uptown.

Background Information

The 2020 Center City Vision Plan identified the North Tryon area as a focus area for further planning and development. "The North Tryon Focus Area is poised to experience dramatic change in the coming years. Originally identified in the 2010 Vision Plan and strategically located along the northern part of Center City’s premier business corridor, this area has a large amount of redevelopment potential, both within Uptown and along its connection northward to the surrounding neighborhoods."
